Community Perspectives Mural

“My students learn from the creatures under their feet and from the clouds above their heads. They learn to kneel down on the ground and climb high into the palms for a different view. They learn from the factual, the fictional, the emotional, and the spiritual.”

Covering 100+ feet of painted surface, Community Perspectives was the largest art installation ever created in Green School’s 11-year history! Initially conceived as a way to creatively address an unsightly wall that had been erected around a new building site, it soon became a popular all-school project that far surpassed initial expectations.

Taking inspiration from the quote on the top of this page, the project was composed of 12 painted panels, each representing one of the school’s 12 stated values: empathy, community, responsibility, trust, etc. Students could choose to express this value in any way they liked, from the smallest scientific details to the loftiest philosophical ideals. The mural showcased a massive range of original art, uniting students of all ages, as well as parents, and faculty, and remained visible on campus for months.
